INDOOR AIR QUALITY STUDY AND FILTER EVALUATION FOR OUTDOOR AIR CIRCULATION IN TERMINALS

The goal of this sustainability project was to provide San Francisco International Airport (SFO) with information to select air filtration and purification systems, building materials and products, and building commissioning strategies to deliver high-quality indoor air in SFO facilities.

We worked with SFO to highlight the importance of strategies that minimized initial pollutant loading in new buildings, summarized published indoor air pollutant concentrations, and reported measured outdoor air quality at SFO. Our team provided recommendations for pollutants that need to be removed prior to use as ventilation air in buildings and options for air filtration/purification systems. SFO will use these results to advance sustainability goals and reduce energy demands.
