ALTASEA AT THE PORT OF LOS ANGELES

LOS ANGELES,

CALIFORNIA

MONITORING FOR LEAD PAINT STABILIZATION

Polytechnique provided hazardous building materials support for AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles (AltaSea) at two warehouses that were constructed over 100 years ago. Our team performed asbestos and lead surveys; conducted monitoring during lead-based paint (LBP) stabilization and cleaning tasks; and prepared abatement bid specification documents. Berths 58, 59, and 60 are combined into one 180,000-square-foot (ft2) structure with 40-foot ceiling areas. Berth 57 is a 51,000-ft2 structure and also has 40-foot ceiling areas. The building housing Berths 58, 59, and 60 had large quantities of LBP that were in poor condition. This building was occupied by AltaSea staff working on projects with live fish. Our team had to figure out how to support the abatement activities while keeping AltaSea staff safe and without compromising their projects. Polytechnique implemented a worker relocation program and sampling schedules, allowing the contractor to complete the lead scope of work with minimal disruption to AltaSea’s operations.
